European Crime Prevention Network (EUCPN)

On November 30, prof. Zbigniew Lasocik and Łukasz Wieczorek PhD, from the Human Trafficking Research Center of the University of Warsaw, participated in an expert meeting of the European Crime Prevention Network (EUCPN), held in Brussels. The meeting concerned the issues of unaccompanied minors without a normalized legal status and foreign children identified as a victims of trafficking.

Representatives of countries discussed issues related to their experience, presented procedures for identifying an unaccompanied foreign minors; as well as discussing future actions to be taken to improve the identification of unaccompanied foreign minors.

EUCPN is an advisory body to the European Commission. It was created in 2001 by the Council Decision 2001/427 / JHA of 28 May 2001 (amended on 30 November 2009 – Council Decision 2009/902 / JHA). The EUCPN consists of EU Member States excluding the United Kingdom (left in 2014).

The overriding goal of this institution is the exchange of information and experience between the Member States of the European Union in the field of crime prevention. Outside the Member States, EUCPN cooperates with international and intergovernmental organizations, including: UNODC, EUROPOL, CEPOL.
