A multi-author monograph entitled “Democratization and De-democratization in Multi-level Democracy in Poland” has been published by the prestigious Routledge publishing house. The publication is the result of the work of a research team consisting of employees of the Department of Political Systems at WNPiSM UW, the Department of Political Research Methodology at WNPiSM UW, the Department of Political Theory and Political Thought at WNPiSM UW, and the Department of Sociology of the Individual and Social Relations at WS UAM.
The book is a comprehensive study of the processes of democratization and de-democratization taking place in Polish regional and local structures in the years 2010–2023. The authors analyzed the situation in selected provinces and cities, examining their relations with processes taking place at the national level.
Among other things, the work shows that decentralization processes are a “double-edged sword”—they can be an opportunity to deepen democracy at the local level, but in specific conditions, they can also foster autocratic tendencies, deepening the differences in the quality of democracy between different levels of government.
