On 21-26 September 2021, a group of female researchers from the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies – professor Dorota Heidrich (Department of Diplomacy and International Institutions), professor Karina Jędrzejowska (Department of Regional and Global Studies) and professor Justyna Nakonieczna-Bartosiewicz (Department of Methodology of Political Science) –  participated in a study visit to Iceland. The trip was organized as part of the project “Introduction to sustainable development education at selected universities in Poland” (project financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and national funding). The project is coordinated by the HumanDoc Foundation. The project is implemented in cooperation with researchers from the University of Wroclaw (Institute of International Studies) and the University of Opole (Institute of Political Science and Administration).

During the study visit, project participants conducted field observations and held a series of meetings with experts in the field of sustainable development education. Expert meetings were attended by representatives of the University of Iceland (including Prof. Hafdis Hanna Ægisdóttir – Director of the Institute for Sustainability Studies), the University of the West Fjords (including Dr. Peter Weiss, Director of the University Centre West Fjords,  Dr. Jill R. Welter, Director of the  SIT MA in Climate Change and Global Sustainability and Dr. Matthías Kokorsch, Director of the MA Program Coastal Communities and Regional Development), as well as Nichole Leigh Mosty, Director of the Multicultural Centre of Iceland. Information obtained during the trip will be used to prepare a textbook and specialist courses on sustainable development, which, according to the project assumptions, will be introduced to the curricula of the International Relations Department and Graduate Programme in International Relations.

The study tour and the project itself are in line with the University of Warsaw actions for the environment and against the climate crisis.
