Professor Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw, has passed away
It is with deep sorrow that we received news that on 30th May 2026, Professor Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk has passed away. A distinguished scholar, a highly esteemed academic teacher, and the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw. Words cannot express the magnitude of this loss.
Professor Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk served as the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw since 3rd July 2025. At a challenging time, she took over responsibility for her beloved Faculty and, with extraordinary energy, commitment, and with a smile on her face, worked hard for the benefit of our academic community. She was always close to the people she worked with – colleagues, lecturers, and students – all of those with whom she discovered and changed the world, and those to whom she revealed it. For many of us, she was someone from whom we could learn kindness, a smile, and responsibility for the community. Her energy, warmth, and optimism will remain in our memories forever.
Professor Kołodziejczyk was a renowned and highly respected scholar of International Relations, specialising in European integration, and throughout her career was associated with the University of Warsaw. She held a number of leadership positions, including Vice-Dean for Research at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, Head of the Full-Time Master's Programme in International Relations, Head of the National Security Programme, and Secretary of the Scientific Committee for Political Science at the Polish Academy of Sciences. For many years, she also served as a judge for both the Olympiad of Knowledge about Poland and the Contemporary World, and the Olympiad on the European Union. She was also a member of the Polish Society for International Studies.
In 2014, she was awarded a habilitation degree at her home Faculty based on the dissertation: Relations Between the European Union and the Group of African, Caribbean and Pacific states: The Role and Significance of Economic Partnership Agreements in Trade and Development Assistance.
Professor Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk will remain a part of the history of our Faculty and University. We will remember her not only for her scholarly and organisational achievements, but as a highly respected academic teacher beloved by students, as well as a person of extraordinary kindness, openness, and devotion to the University of Warsaw community. Above all, we will remember the person she was: kind, wise, loving the world and people, and full of empathy.
On behalf of the entire community of the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, we extend our deepest condolences to Professor Kołodziejczyk’s family and loved ones.
