Szatur-Jaworska Barbara

prof. dr hab. Barbara Szatur-Jaworska – Ph.D. in political science (1986), Ph.D. with habilitation in political science (2001), professor of social sciences (2018); professor. Selected positions she held at the University of Warsaw include Deputy Director of the Institute of Social Policy, and Vice-Rector for Student Affairs at the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science (1996-2002 and 2005-2012, respectively), as well as PhD degree programme supervisor (since 2016) and Head of Department on Political Research Methodology (since 2019) at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies. She is a serving member of the Senate of the University of Warsaw for the 2020-2024 term. Selected research projects: Research project of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education: “Aspekty medyczne, psychologiczne, socjologiczne i ekonomiczne starzenia się ludzi w Polsce – POLSENIOR” – member of the nation-wide research team (2006-2011); PROGRAMME PHC-POLONIUM 2012-2013: “Les politiques publiques sociales locales à l’égard des personnes âgées” – member of the nation-wide research team; research project financed under a National Science Centre grant (2014-2016): „Polityka społeczna wobec starzenia się ludności Polski – analiza dla lat 1971-2013” – project leader. She has been a member of the Scientific Committee on Labour and Social Policy of the Polish Academy of Sciences (since 2007), member of the governing bodies of the Polish Society of Gerontology (2001-2013), and has also been sitting on the Board of the Social Labour Section of the Polish Sociological Association since 2011. In 2012-2020 she was chief editor of the “Problemy Polityki Społecznej. Studia i Dyskusje” quarterly. From 2007 to 2020 she was an expert working for the Commissioner for Human Rights. She authored expert opinions for, i.a., the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the local government of the Mazovia Province, the capital city of Warsaw, and the local government of the Pomerania Province.

Research interests

Social gerontology, theory and methodology of social politics, studies on social issues, theory and methodology of social work.
