Dr. Iuliia Eremenko, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw, recently presented her research at the 6th International Art and the City Conference. This event took place from June 3-5, 2024, at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Göttingen, Germany.
The conference, known for promoting interdisciplinary dialogues and collaborations, focuses on the intersections of art, urban spaces, the “right to the city,” aesthetics, and the politics of the urban environment. Dr. Eremenko’s presentation, titled “Between Creativity and Conservation: The Dynamics of Street Art Expertise in World Heritage Hanseatic Cities in Poland and Germany,” was dedicated to understanding who decides which forms of street art and graffiti may exist within World Heritage areas and which may not.
This study is part of a project titled “Local experts in Polish and German World Heritage Cities: understanding their role in polycentric governance of heritage sites” (project No. 2021/43/P/HS5/02926), which is co-funded by the National Science Centre and the European Union Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement no. 945339.
