We are pleased to announce that Dr Iuliia Eremenko, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw, participated in the esteemed EXPER Conference on “Glocalized Experiences of Heritage: Imaginaires and Appropriations of World Heritage Historical and Religious sites.” She presented her research titled “The role of local experts in protecting religious sites within the urban context of Toruń” as part of the “Multireligiosity and Spirituality” section.

This study was conducted as part of the grant “Local experts in Polish and German World Heritage Cities: understanding their role in polycentric governance of heritage sites” (project 2021/43/P/HS5/02926 co-funded by the National Science Centre and the European Union Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement no. 945339).

The conference, held on 1-2 June 2023 at the Médiathèque du patrimoine et de la photographie in Paris.

The conference expanded on the research leads developed within the EXPER project. It explored other theoretical frameworks and international case studies, examining the role and multiplicity of religiosities and rituals, both majority and minority and their unique relationship with sites and their users. Contemporary challenges related to managing, conservating, and mediating these complex heritage sites, with their multiple dimensions and affiliations, were also addressed.
