Abstract:

Between the explosion of Nord Stream, the commissioning of the Baltic Pipe and the construction of LNG terminals in Germany, the gas infrastructure landscape in the Baltic Sea has changed significantly in 2022. The development of new infrastructure is part of the German and Polish strategies to become independent from Russian gas supplies. In the case of Poland, it is a strategy that has been thought out on a long-term basis, whereas Germany is acting in emergency. The destruction and construction of German and Polish import facilities also impacts the neighbouring countries. This presentation will analyse the consequences of these developments in the context of the Ukraine war.
