Guidelines for remote teaching
in the summer semester of the academic year 2020/21
- The basic form of conducting classes remotely is videoconferencing in real time, according to the timetable (synchronous classes). It is recommended to create a permanent link to a given class and share it with students.
- No more than 1/3[1] of the teaching hours (for lectures up to 50%) of a given subject in a given form may take place in an asynchronous form, meaning:
- in the case of lectures: the lecturer recording the lecture and making the recording available for a certain amount of time (a minimum of one week);
- in the case of seminars, classes, workshops: exercises/tasks performed on a dedicated platform; sharing recordings of lecturers discussing parts of the programme. The asynchronous activity should allow for the achievement of the learning outcomes planned for a given subject in a given form.
- Both synchronous and asynchronous classes take place on a regular basis, with the completion of subsequent class topics clearly indicated.
- Classes taking place in several groups should be standardized, meaning, among others, standardized tools for conducting the classes and standardized assessment methods and criteria.
- It is recommended to create a common remote space for a given subject to upload materials and students’ works, and to possibly use for the asynchronous part of the class.
- For each work assigned by the instructor and completed by the student, the student should be provided with feedback in oral or written form (an assessment with a justification/a comment/remarks).
- At the beginning of a series of classes from a given subject held in the form of videoconferencing, rules on whether the cameras should be on during class must be agreed upon together with the group, taking into account all the related consequences, both for the students and for the class instructor.
- Prior to commencing classes in a given series, the instructor is obliged to update the subject syllabus and include all relevant information, such as information on the form in which the class is to be held, the tools used, the rules of verifying attendance, the rules of receiving credit for the subject appropriate to the form in which the class will be held.
It is recommended to provide a list of compulsory literature available in electronic form.
- The class instructor is required to schedule and hold weekly duty hours – if they are held remotely, the staff member is required to provide a link to the meeting.
- Students and class instructors, when logging into the remote teaching tools, are obliged to use e-mail addresses in the UW domain: @student.uw.edu.pl and @uw.edu.pl, respectively.
- Standardized tools for remote teaching are introduced:
– for classes conducted synchronously via videoconferencing: Google Meet and Zoom;
– for the parts of classes conducted asynchronously: Google Classroom (possibly also Google Drive and Google Forms) and Kampus.
In exceptional cases, with the consent of the Course Administrator and the concerned student group, it is possible to use another tool from the set of tools recommended by UW.
- Remote classes may be conducted from classrooms in WNPiSM buildings on terms determined by the Dean of the Faculty.
