Cooperation between University of Warsaw (UofW) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA)

On 12 October 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the University of Warsaw (UofW) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) during a meeting in an online format. On the UofW side, the document was signed by Rector Sambor Grucza, while on the UNRWA side, it was signed by Ms. Tamara Alrifai, Director of External Relations and Communications at UNRWA. 

The cooperation with UNRWA was established back in 2022, and was initiated by Dr. Dorota Heidrich, PhD, DSc in cooperation with Jakub Zajączkowski PhD, DSc. Ms. Anna Sadecka, Head of the UofW Office of International Cooperation, was responsible for the organizational side and substantive support from UofW Central Authorities. On 26 October 2022 Mr. Marc Lassouaoui, Senior Manager, Outreach Europe UNRWA Representative Office to the European Union paid a vist to the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies (FPSIS). As a result of this and subsequent meetings between UofW and UNRWA representatives, the MoU was negotiated. Its aim is to build friendly relations and develop academic and expert cooperation between the partners. An important element of the agreement is also the possibility of joint scientific seminars, introducing the Agency’s activities. The first joint event is scheduled for December 2023. On the part of the FPSIS UofW, the persons responsible for cooperation with UNRWA is Dorota Heidrich, PhD, DSc, while on the part of the Central Univeristy authorities, Ms. Anna Sadecka.
