From 25 to 27 October 2024, a study trip to Kraków was organised for 60 Indonesian students participating in the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) programme. IISMA, launched by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, aims to provide students with international educational experiences and foster cross-cultural competencies. The trip was a unique opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in Polish culture, history, and heritage.

The first day began with a train journey from Warsaw to Kraków. Upon arrival, students checked into their accommodation and enjoyed a traditional lunch of pierogi, exploring the comforting flavours of homemade Polish cuisine. After lunch, the group took a guided tour of the Old Town, gaining insight into Kraków’s historical heart. The day concluded with dinner at a local restaurant, allowing time for reflection and conversation about the first impressions.

The second day was particularly impactful, with a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. In a contemplative atmosphere, the students learned about the camp’s history and the tragic fate of its prisoners. This profound experience deepened their understanding of 20th-century history and prompted personal reflection. The day ended with an evening meal featuring European cuisine back in Kraków, where students shared their thoughts and reflections on the day’s visit.

On the final day, following a morning walk around Wawel Castle, the group returned to Warsaw enriched with new experiences and memories. Ahead of them is yet another study trip, planned for 12 November 2024 to Białystok, where they will continue exploring Polish history and culture.

The trip was funded through the Indonesian Government funds – IISMA.
