Academic Seminar with prof. Marek J. Kaswan

We invite you to an academic seminar featuring prof. Marek J. Kaswan from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. During the event, Prof. Kaswan will deliver a lecture titled “Happiness, Democracy, and the Socialist Imaginary,” followed by a discussion.

Prof. Mark J. Kaswan is a political scientist at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where he teaches political science. He earned his Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2010. His research interests primarily include democratic theory, the history of political thought, community and economic development, the cooperative movement, utilitarianism, and the connections between happiness, democracy, and the organization of social life. He is the author of the book *Happiness, Democracy, and the Cooperative Movement*, which explores, among other topics, the thought of William Thompson and the significance of the concept of happiness for understanding democracy and the cooperative movement.

The seminar is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. in Room 308 of the Auditorium Building.
