Conference “The Future of EU Enlargements: Challenging Illiberal Trends and Democracy Support” in Rome

On 6–7 November 2025, the Polish Academy of Sciences Scientific Centre in Rome hosted the international academic conference “The Future of EU Enlargements: Challenging Illiberal Trends and Democracy Support.” The event was devoted to discussing the key challenges and opportunities related to the future enlargements of the European Union, analyzed from various geographical and political perspectives.

The discussions focused on different approaches to supporting democracy, building institutional resilience, and the role of the European Union in addressing illiberal trends.

The Faculty of Political Science and International Studies of the University of Warsaw had the honor of being one of the co-organizers of the event. The Faculty’s delegation included Professor Agnieszka Bieńczyk-Missala, Dr Spasimir Domaradzki, Dr Dominika Harasimiuk, and Dr hab. Vadym Zheltovskyy, University Professor.

The conference was jointly organized by the Polish Academy of Sciences Scientific Centre in Rome, the Institute of European Studies, Jagiellonian University, the Faculty of International and Political Studies, Jagiellonian University, the Excellence Initiative – Research University, Jagiellonian University, the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw, and the University of Foggia.
