The Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw cordially invites you to a guest lecture by PhD Jarosław Pietras. The meeting will focus on the key challenges facing the European Union in the context of its planned enlargement.

The prospect of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union raises fundamental questions about the Community’s readiness to accept a new member. Are the current institutional frameworks and decision-making mechanisms sufficient? Is a profound reform of the treaties necessary? These questions will be answered by our guest, who combines many years of academic experience with practice at the highest levels of EU and national administration.

PhD Jarosław Pietras has been teaching at the University of Warsaw for nearly three decades and is currently a visiting professor at the Department of European Economic Studies. His rich professional career includes key positions in Polish governments between 1990 and 2006, where he served as Secretary of State for European Affairs and Secretary of State in the Ministry of Finance, among others.
On the international stage, he is best known as the long-standing Director-General of the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union, a position he held from 2008 to 2020.
