From 16 to 21 January 2023, Prof. Beret Bråten of the Center for Gender Studies of the University of Oslo was a guest lecturer at our Faculty, teaching our English-speaking students. Prof. Bråten is a sociologist, political scientist, and a perennial member of the Labor Party (also a deputy member of the Norwegian parliament, the Storting, from 1985 to 1989). She was a political advisor in the Prime Minister’s Office during Thorbjørn Jagland’s term as prime minister from 1996 to 1997 and was described as one of his closest confidants.
Prof. Bråten visited the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies within an agreement with the University of Oslo (Iceland, Liechtenstein Norway Grants program). During her stay, Prof. Bråten met with Dr. Agnieszka Bejma, Dr. Jadwiga Nadolska, as well as Assoc. prof. Renata Mienkowska-Norkiene and MA Aleksandra Polak. The topics of her lectures and meetings with our scientists focused on gender equality, contemporary social movements, and cooperation between scientific institutions from Norway and Poland. Cooperation between the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies of the University of Warsaw and the Center for Gender Studies at the University of Oslo will continue, and as part of this cooperation, Assoc. Prof. Renata Mienkowska-Norkiene, who will meet with representatives of the Center for Gender Studies and give lectures to Norwegian students, will visit the University of Oslo on March 20-25 this year.
