Prof. Hanna Schreiber trains EU member states representatives on intangible heritage

Prof. Hanna Schreiber, head of the UNESCO Chair on Intangible Cultural Heritage in Public and Global Governance (ichgovernance.com) at our Faculty, is training state experts from EU countries on the protection of cultural heritage in crisis situations as part of the EU’s PROCULTHER program (https://www.proculther.eu/) on September 25-26 in Caserta (Italy). The week-long course, which includes training on intangible heritage, brings together 35 representatives from 18 EU member states working in state administration structures, including ministries of culture, ministries of the interior, fire departments, police, conservation services, archives, libraries, civil defence structures, and crisis management units.

The training is both theoretical and practical, drawing on current standards of crisis management, including documents developed by UNESCO, such as the Ethical Principles for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (2015) and the Operational Principles and Modalities for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in Emergencies (2020). These documents have been translated into Polish and published on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the 2003 UNESCO Convention in a publication edited by Hanna Schreiber, Niematerialne dziedzictwo kulturowe.
