Professor Yoichiro Sato from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University visited the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies from October 3-7. He came to Warsaw with the project “Eurasian Insights: Strengthening Indo-Pacific Studies,” which is funded by the Erasmus + program and implemented at WNPiSM. The visit was co-coordinated by Dr. Barbara Kratiuk, Dr. Aleksandra Jaskólska and Ambassador Tomasz Łukaszuk.

During his visit, Professor Sato held a series of lectures for WNPiSM students. On October 4, 2022 there was a lecture on “USA and the policy towards Asia-Pacific” aas well as a lecture on “Japan’s policy towards Asia-Pacific” for undergraduate students. On October 5, 2022, Professor Sato held a lecture for graduate students on “US strategy towards Indo-Pacific” . Professor Sato also participated in a seminar organized by the Student Association of Pacific Area States (of which Dr. Aleksandra Jaskólska is supervisor) titled “Shinzo Abe’s Legacy and Impact on Japanese Foreign Policy.”

Professor Sato also spoke to students about the possibility of student exchange between WNPiSM and Ritsumeikan Asia-Pacific University.

On October 3, 6 and 7, Professor Sato met with members of the consortium of the “Eurasian Insights: Strengthening Indo-Pacific Studies” project to discuss further activities of the project, including the upcoming book “Handbook of Indo-Pacific Studies” (scheduled to be published December 2022 by Routledge Publishing in open access).

Professor Sato’s visit was fully funded by the “Eurasian Insights: Strengthening Indo-Pacific Studies” project, in which the University of Warsaw and the Department of Political Science and International Studies are leaders. The project is coordinated by Dr. Barbara Kratiuk.
