We are pleased to announce the publication of an article by Dr. Kamil Matuszczyk. The publication was prepared in collaboration with researchers from Germany, including a recipient of the prestigious ERC Starting Grant. The article appeared in the renowned journal ILR Review. It is published by one of the most prestigious American universities, Cornell University, a member of the Ivy League.
The article titled “The Value of Care: Brokering Work Conditions and Wages within a Transnational Care System” was published online on March 26, 2026. The publication examines the working conditions and wages of mobile care workers providing services in Germany, with a particular focus on the role of intermediaries in the transnational care services market. The authors demonstrate how the intermediary system influences the relationship between the number of hours worked and wage levels.
The article draws on the results of research conducted as part of the NCN PRELUDIUM 14 grant titled “Care Services for the Elderly Provided by Foreigners and the Quality of Home Care – A Public Policy Perspective,” carried out at our Department between 2018 and 2022. The project was funded by the National Science Center.
This is yet another example of the high quality of research conducted at our Department and its international recognition.
We congratulate the author and co-authors of the publication!
