

The conference entitled The Constitution of the Republic of Poland – the foundation of the political system, potential for change is now behind us. The event was organized on December 15, 2025, at the University of Warsaw by the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, the Aleksander Kwaśniewski Amicus Europae Foundation, and the Gabriel Narutowicz Institute of Political Thought.
The debate was opened by Dr. Ireneusz Bil, president of the Amicus Europae Foundation, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, rector of the University of Warsaw, Dr. Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk, professor at the University of Warsaw and dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, and Dr. Roland Zarzycki, deputy director of the Gabriel Narutowicz Institute of Political Thought.
The first part of the event featured speeches by Aleksander Kwaśniewski, former President of Poland and Chairman of the Constitutional Committee of the National Assembly, Dr. Mirosław Wyrzykowski, Professor at the University of Warsaw, former judge of the Constitutional Tribunal, and Professor Ewa Łętowska, former Ombudsman and judge of the Constitutional Tribunal. The speakers discussed the origins of the Polish Constitution, its axiological foundations, and its significance for the protection of civil rights and freedoms. Włodzimierz Czarzasty, Marshal of the Sejm, also presented his reflections on the future of Polish constitutionalism.

The second part of the conference took the form of an open discussion with the participation of Magdalena Biejat, Deputy Speaker of the Polish Senate, Waldemar Pawlak, former Prime Minister, Ryszard Kalisz, former Minister of Internal Affairs, Prof. Jerzy Jaskiernia, former Minister of Justice, and Dr. Tomasz Słomka, professor at the University of Warsaw.
The debate confirmed the importance of cooperation between the academic community, public institutions, and social organizations in building an informed and responsible debate on the fundamental principles of the state system.
