On December 11, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., the first concert entitled “Gamelan: Music and Dance of Java” will take place in the Prof. Jan Baszkiewicz Auditorium in the WNPISM Auditorium Building.

On behalf of Prof. Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw, and Prof. Małgorzata Karpińska, Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the University of Warsaw, we cordially invite you to the first musical meeting in the “Politics of Sound” series.

This is yet another initiative of our faculties, resulting in unique artistic events combining music with reflection on politics. Joint concert projects create a space for the meeting of art, knowledge, and cultural sensitivity, showing how diverse forms of expression can intertwine and complement each other. We are delighted to invite you to this year’s events, which are the result of this inspiring collaboration. You can find the schedule of all concerts in the attached materials.

About the concert:
Gamelan is a traditional Javanese orchestra consisting mainly of gongs, metallophones, drums, and string instruments. Its sound, forming a single, inseparable whole, requires close cooperation between the performers and has accompanied Javanese court and folk culture for centuries.

During the concert, we will hear Gamelan Kyai Kotowijoyo, owned by the University of Warsaw, performed by participants of the Institute of Musicology workshops and the Warsaw Gamelan Group, an ensemble founded by graduates, including those who studied gamelan in Indonesia. The event will be accompanied by a Javanese dance performance by Diah Anggraini-Martin.
