META United Nations Summer School: “The Resilience of Multilateralism in Times of Uncertainty”

The META United Nations Summer School: “The Resilience of Multilateralism in Times of Uncertainty” has come to an end!

From 2–5 September, PhD students and researchers, together with experts from partner universities, gathered at the University of Warsaw to explore some of the key challenges facing international cooperation today. The Summer School brought participants together for debates, lectures, and research presentations focused on the future of multilateralism in a world of growing tensions.

The programme included discussions on:

• the current crisis of multilateralism and the future of the United Nations,
• the historical origins and evolution of multilateral cooperation,
• the impact of states’ disengagement from international institutions,
• the role of civil society, NGOs, and transnational corporations,
• interdisciplinary approaches combining history, law, and political science.

An important part of the event was also dedicated to PhD research presentations, the exchange of perspectives, as well as an Oxford-style debate on whether the US-led Board of Peace could be a viable alternative to the United Nations.
