We recently hosted Prof. Gerald Schneider from 27-29 November 2023. Prof. Schneider is a Professor of International Politics at the University of Konstanz, Germany, since 1997 and Executive Editor of European Union Politics. His main areas of research are European Union decision making, the causes and consequences of armed violence, international political economy, bargaining and conflict management, as well as administrative inequality.

On 27 November Dr. hab. Jakub Zajaczkowski, Dean Representative of International Cooperation and Research, and Prof. Stanisław Sulowski held a bilateral meeting with Prof. Schneider.

On 28 November Dean Dr. hab. Daniel Przastek, Vice Dean Dr. Hab. Maciej Ras and Dean Representative of International Cooperation and Research Dr. hab. Jakub Zajaczkowski held a meeting with Professor Schneider and discussed a wide array of discussions related to bilateral cooperation. Later in the afternoon, there was discussion related to establishing a dual degree programme between the University of Konstanz and the University of Warsaw. The dual degree discussion was led by Prof. Wojciech Gagatek, Dean representative for strategy, and Dr. hab. Reneta Mieńkowska-Norkiene, Head of the Program in Political Science and attended by Mgr. Aleksandra Borycka-Dziekaska, Head of the Section for International Cooperation and Research, and Mgr. Saroj Kumar Aryal, Head of the Bilateral Cooperation. Between 15:00-16:30 on 28 November Prof. Schneider gave a presentation in a student seminar. The title of the paper that he presented was ‘A price worth paying? Humanitarian side effects of economic coercion,1989 to 2015. The seminar was chaired by Professor Aleksandra Gasztold.

On 29th November from 10:00-11:30 AM Prof. Schneider presented a paper titled ‘Discriminatory coercion: Understanding the twofold bias of EU and U.S. sanctions’. This seminar was organized for the scholars who are working on the area of comparative politics and international political economy. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Barbara Regulska. After the seminar there was a discussion about the possibility of joint collaboration in research between the University of Konstanz and the University of Warsaw.
