EXPERT SEMINAR: India and Central Europe: Perceptions, Perspectives, Prospects

organized by Department of Area and Global Studies, Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw and Centre for International Relations

23 May 2022, 13.15-14.45

University of Warsaw, Faculty of Political Science and International Studies Building, Krakowskie Przedmieście street 26/28 Main campus, Room No. 317

India’s relations with Central Europe have been radically transformed from being a subset of Indo-Soviet relations during the Cold War to the rediscovery and rebuilding
of relations almost from scratch in the post-Cold War era. The combination of Brexit, the rise of China and India’s expanding geo-economic interests in Europe have led the Narendra Modi government since 2014 to contemplate relations with Central Europe through a more strategic lens and treat the region as an autonomous element within India’s foreign policy rather than a footnote of its relations with other great powers.

In this expert seminar, Europeanists, economists, think-tankers, and policymakers present diverse perceptions and perspectives of the growing economic and political engagement as well as the potential and prospects of relations between India and Central Europe.
